Phase2 6.0 is a powerful 2D elasto-plastic finite element stress analysis program for underground or surface excavations in rock or soil. It can be used for a wide range of engineering projects and now includes built-in finite element groundwater seepage analysis and finite element slope stability. Complex, multi-stage models can be easily created and quickly analyzed, e.g., tunnels in weak rock, underground powerhouse caverns, open pit mines and slopes, embankments, MSE stabilized earth structures, and much more. Progressive failure, support interaction and a variety of other problems can be addressed. Phase2 provides more material modeling options than ever before, including Cam-Clay and Modified Cam-Clay for soil applications; Mohr-Coulomb, which can now be specified as a function of depth; the Generalized Hoek-Brown strength criterion for the analysis of rock mass strength; and explicit modeling of joints (e.g., natural joints in rock or man-made construction joints). A wide variety of support types for rock and soil can be modeled. Bolt types include end anchored, fully bonded, cable bolts, split sets and tiebacks. Liner elements can be applied in the modeling of shotcrete, concrete layers, steel set systems, retaining wall structures and multi-layer composite liners. Piles and geosynthetics can be modeled using a combination of liner and joint elements, using the new Structural Interface option. Phase2 includes steady state, finite element groundwater seepage analysis built right into the program. There is no need to use a separate groundwater program. Pore pressure is determined as well as flow and gradient, based on user defined hydraulic boundary conditions and material conductivity. Pore pressure results are automatically incorporated into the stress analysis. Pore pressure can also be modeled using water tables, ru factors or grids. One of the most exciting new features of Phase2 6.0 is finite element slope stability using the shear strength reduction (SSR) method. This option is fully automated and can be used with either Mohr-Coulomb or Hoek-Brown strength parameters. Slope models can be imported from Slide and computed in Phase2, allowing easy comparison of limit equilibrium and finite element results.
