12d Model软件是用于公路、铁路、城市排水系统等规划设计的大型软件包，具有强大的地面模型处理功能，目前国内还较少应用。在12 dModel软件中，可视化信息主要以下列文件形式存在：＊．model、＊．tin、＊．template、＊．function。 这四类数据包含了工程数字模型的所有原始文件及计算输出结果。＊．model即模块 文件，主要用于储存各种线条（string），包括等高线，各种二维线、三维线，公路及施工场地定线，12d Model计算结果的剖面线、封闭线等。＊．tin即三角网文件， 主要用于储存各种三维地表模型，12d Model中各种地形填挖计算都基于其上. ＊．template即模板文件，主要用于存储各类地形填挖断面型式及填挖边坡。所有参数可随时调整，并将有关项目重新计算。＊．function即功能文件，主要用于应用模板及界面参数选择并收集某些特定数据。当模板文件及其它一些数据和参数被修改时，可以重新应用这些功能更新数据并得到新的结果。这就为得到经济合理的设计方案，提供了强有力的手段.12d Model软件，可以从Auto CAD中读入三维地形图，也可直接读取原始测绘点数据.
